Cindy Zihan Yang Selected to the 2016 U.S. Figure Skating Scholastic Honors Team

Congratulations to high school Senior, Cindy Zihan Yang, who became one of ten skaters selected to the 2016 U.S. Figure Skating Scholastic Honors Team. This program recognizes high school athletes who not only excel in the sport of figure skating, but also in academic achievements and community involvement. What does it take to become a USFS Scholastic Honors recipient? Following is a brief list of Cindy's accomplishments.

Cindy Zihan Yang, a full time student at Irvington High School in Fremont, has been an active member of the student government and leadership program throughout her high school experience. Cindy is vice president of the Acts of Random Kindness Club, captain of the Irvington Mock Trial Team and was a recipient of the Presidential Educational Excellence Award. In addition to her academic achievements, Cindy has served more than 700 volunteer service hours and is a local ambassador for Delete Blood Cancer, which holds informational sessions and donor match drives throughout the year. She was the recent winner of a local poetry contest and District Self Portrait Art Competition. A member of Peninsula Skating Club, Yang is a volunteer Basic Skills instructor and has participated in numerous figure skating galas and charity shows.

A competitive skater, Cindy competes in Singles, Solo Dance and is a member of a Theatre on Ice ensemble. At the 2015 Central Pacific Regional Championships, Cindy competed in the Junior Ladies event. Last September, Cindy qualified for the 2015 National Solo Dance Championships where she competed in the Gold Pattern Dance event and the Junior Combined event, qualifying for the Championship rounds, where she finished 7th and 6th place (respectively) overall. Then, the following month, Cindy passed her Senior Free Skate. At the rink, on the ice is not the only place you'll see Cindy—she is also a trial judge, working toward her first appointment.

We wish the best of luck to Cindy in the future and applaud her personal achievements as well as her contributions to our community!
