Solo Dance

Solo dance offers athletes an exciting and competitive environment to participate and grow their ice dance skills without having to compete or train with a partner. Skaters can compete in the National Solo Dance Series, with the top finishers from each level earning the opportunity to compete at the National Solo Dance Final.

The Solo Dance Competition Series is a series of competitions that skaters may compete at in order to try to earn their spot at the National Solo Dance Final. Following the conclusion of the season, skaters in the solo pattern dance, combined event and shadow pattern dance from each section who have competed in at least two Solo Dance Series participating competitions in any section and meet the following criteria (specific to event type) will be invited to advance to the National Solo Dance Final (NSDF). Qualification is based on a skater/team's highest IJS score at a designated Series competition for all events.

1. SOLO PATTERN DANCE AND COMBINED EVENT ONLY: Those skaters in each section who finish in the top six for total IJS score in each level will receive an invitation to advance to the National Solo Dance Final.

2. SHADOW PATTERN DANCE EVENT ONLY: Those shadow pattern dance teams in each section who finish in the top three for total IJS score in each level will receive an invitation to advance to the National Solo Dance Final.

Skaters must first register to be a part of the Solo Dance Series. The 2023 National Solo Dance Series Competition Application Is Now Available On EMS (Deadline: December 5, 2022). They then must register and compete at approved solo dance competitions to earn scores. Requirements to determine the event and level to register for along with series guidelines are outlined in the Solo Dance Series Handbook located on the Series Info page. The Solo Dance Series competitions are held from March and August, and the National Solo Dance Final will be held in September. At this date of 12/1/22, approved solo dance competitions have not been posted but the dances are outlined on pages 5-6 in the handbook.
